About the Role
We are seeking a talented Backend Engineer to become a core member of the Rocksolid squad—arenaflex’s flagship backend team for the Customer Service Platform. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining the critical services that keep our support operations running smoothly for millions of customers worldwide. Your work will span multiple channels (web, email, chat), compliance logging, account management, data pipelines, and operational automation, all while collaborating closely with product managers, engineering leads, and cross‑functional partners.
Key Responsibilities
- Architect and implement high‑throughput backend services that power customer support workflows, ensuring they meet the highest standards of availability, scalability, and latency.
- Integrate third‑party vendors and define clear system boundaries to maintain a clean, modular architecture that can evolve independently.
- Design, build, and optimize RESTful and gRPC APIs that deliver real‑time support data to internal stakeholders, including live advisors, AI‑driven chatbots, and analytics dashboards.
- Advance the Conversation SDK, a critical component that powers roughly 65 % of all support interactions, and contribute to its small but essential frontend layer for seamless chat experiences.
- Maintain compliance‑critical systems by implementing robust logging, auditing, and data‑retention mechanisms that meet global regulatory standards.
- Develop and enhance data pipelines that transform raw support events into actionable insights for product, operations, and business intelligence teams.
- Collaborate closely with cross‑functional teams—frontend engineers, data engineers, product managers, and UX designers—to drive end‑to‑end feature development.
- Write clean, well‑tested, and maintainable code using modern development practices, including code reviews, static analysis, and automated testing.
- Participate in on‑call rotation and proactively address production incidents, contributing to our incident‑response playbooks and post‑mortem processes.
- Mentor junior engineers and share knowledge through brown‑bag sessions, internal wikis, and pair‑programming.
Essential Qualifications
- Minimum 2+ years of professional experience building backend services for large‑scale, distributed systems.
- Strong proficiency in Java, with a solid understanding of concurrency, memory management, and JVM performance tuning.
- Hands‑on experience designing and implementing RESTful and gRPC APIs, including versioning, authentication, and rate limiting.
- Proficiency with both SQL (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL) and NoSQL (e.g., Cassandra, DynamoDB, MongoDB) databases, including data modeling for high‑availability workloads.
- Familiarity with the Google Cloud Platform (GCP) ecosystem—Compute Engine, Cloud Run, Pub/Sub, BigQuery, and Cloud Storage.
- Demonstrated problem‑solving skills, with a proactive attitude toward debugging, performance optimization, and incident mitigation.
Preferred Qualifications & Nice‑to‑Have Skills
- Experience with container orchestration platforms such as Kubernetes or Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE).
- Knowledge of infrastructure‑as‑code tools like Terraform or Deployment Manager.
- Exposure to CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or CircleCI.
- Understanding of event‑driven architectures and streaming technologies (e.g., Kafka, Pub/Sub).
- Familiarity with security best practices for data protection, OAuth2, and zero‑trust networking.
- Experience working in an Agile Scrum or Kanban environment, with a track record of delivering incremental value.
Core Skills & Competencies
- Technical Excellence: Ability to write production‑grade code that balances readability, performance, and maintainability.
- System Design: Strong grasp of microservices architecture, API design patterns, and distributed system trade‑offs.
