General Summary: This position performs a variety of specialized library tasks that require attention to detail and correctly implementing procedures. This position works with the library’s online catalogue for specific aspects of the cataloguing process. Job duties include, but are not limited to: specialized data entry, coding, and troubleshooting or proofreading information for books and other similar library materials. Other duties include applying call number labels, protective covers, and security tags to library materials. This position also receives new items to be added to the library’s collections. This position coordinates with other library staff to ensure efficient library operations. Responsibilities: Participates in copy cataloging of new books. Searches for bibliographic records in international bibliographic utility (OCLC). Edits bibliographic records according to local standards. Transfers bibliographic records into Alma. Participates in all aspects of inventory and physical processing of library materials. Prints, matches, and applies call number labels to library materials. Determines appropriate physical processing for library materials. Programs and attaches security tags. Reinstates and transfers materials from all library departments. Withdraws library materials according to university and state discard procedures. Performs bibliographic database maintenance in local integrated library system (Alma). Edits bibliographic records, holding records, and item records. Updates bibliographic records, holding records, and item records. Deletes bibliographic records, holding records, and item records. Participate in Unit Resource Operations. Receive new items to add to the library’s collections. Receives gift items to potentially be added to the library’s collections Participates in research and review of materials donated to the library, including consulting with liaison librarians regarding the addition of gift items in their liaison area(s). Processes and ships books not added to the library collection, as well as withdrawn books, to Better World Books. Other duties. Compiles monthly and annual statistics for the Resources & Metadata Management Unit. Contributes to Unit documentation, including manuals, checklists, and procedures. May supervise student employees. May serve on library, university, or external committees. May assist with moving furniture or equipment for library events. Maintains 100% compliance with timely completion of required System, University and job-specific online training courses. Necessary Qualifications: High School diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge and experience with email, spreadsheet, and word processing applications, including basic keyboarding skills. Ability to move medium weight boxes, furniture, books, heavy book truck or similar items. Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree. Supervisory experience. Experience working in a library. Experience using an automated library system. Familiarity with library operations.
